Official vehicle deregistration
Official member of the Federal Motor Transport Authority's (KBA) digitalization project. As an official member, we are in close contact with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) and the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV), which is responsible for overseeing the project, and support the authorities in advancing digital registration processes in Germany.

How changing your registration online works
New address, new name or new owner – your change takes four steps, with no appointment at the registration office.
Start the change
Your vehicle is already registered. We guide you through the change – after moving, a change of name or a purchase.
Enter vehicle data and security codes
Copy the details from registration certificate part I and II and uncover the hidden security codes. We show you exactly where to find them.
Insurance, vehicle tax and ID
Upload a photo of your ID showing the new address. For a change of owner, the eVB number and the IBAN for vehicle tax are added. Our registration experts check everything before the application goes to the registration office.
Get your confirmation and drive
Once approved, you receive the provisional registration confirmation as a PDF. With the plates fitted you can drive right away – documents and seals arrive by post.
What you need
- Valid ID card, passport or residence permit
- Vehicle documents: registration certificate part I and part II
- The vehicle's licence plates
- For a change of owner: eVB number from your car insurance
- For a change of owner: IBAN for vehicle tax – the account holder must be the vehicle owner

Without a change of owner you only update your details, for example after moving or changing your name. If you bought a vehicle that is still registered, the owner changes – that is a transfer of registration, which you can also do online with us.
